茜染めのストール。 dyeing a scarf in madder

染色のワークショップ、染料は、
基本的に、藍染めと草木染めの２種類です。
自然の素材から染料をとる草木染めの場合、
染料は、時期によってさまざまです。
BIGLABO has dyeing course, usually indigo dyeing and botanical dyeing.
Botanical dye depends on the season, as it is from natural plants.


例、ゴヨウアケビの葉。さわやかな淡黄色がとれます。
Sample:leaves of GOYOU-AKEBI. They has light yellow as dye.

今日は、草木染めで、
茜染め（あかね・ぞめ）を体験させていただきました。
I tried botanical dyeing to madder today.

まずは、白いハンカチとストールを、
糸でくくります。
糸で強く、くくったところには、
染料がはいらないので、白くのこるのです。
At first I tyed white handkerchief and scarf with thread.
To tye tightly, the dye cannot get into the point and it will keep white color.

そのあいだにも、講師の戸川万恵（とがわ・かずえ）先生は、
染料をあたためて、濾しています。
草木染めは、染料が熱いほうが、
よく色がはいるのだそうです。
While the instructor Kazue TOGAWA is warming the dye and filters it.
She said that dyeing in high temperture is good.

てぶくろをはめて、いざ！
Now I'll try!

染料はあたたかくて、手がきもちいい。
The dye is hot, I feel good with my hands.

水洗いしたあと、酢酸銅（さくさんどう）の媒染液（ばいせん・えき）につけます。
これは、つめたい。
After washing with water, I sink the cloths in copper acetate for mordanting.
This is cold.

糸を切るときは、慎重に、慎重に、
布を切らないように。
I cut the thread carefully not to cut the cloth.

美しい白いすじがのこっています、
成功しました！
I succeeded in the white stripe!

しあげのアイロンをていねいにかけます。
Ironing after all.

実は、うまくいったら、
母への誕生日プレゼントにしようかな、
とかんがえていました。
おかげさまで、素敵なプレゼントが作れました。

To tell the truth, I was thinking if I could do it well, I wanted to give mother on her birthday,
and then I succeed in and I am sure my mother would like it!!

Next workshop of dyeing is on January 20th.

出張の染色講座もできるとのことです。
学校や地域のサークル、おともだちとの会で、
染色をたのしむのは、いかがですか？
ご自分のTシャツを染めてもいいですね。
The instructor Togawa can held workshop out of BIGLABO, for example, at school, as a club activities to enjoy dyeing cloth.
You can bring your own Tshirts or clothes,etc.

ろうけつ染めでは、溶かしたろうを、筆につけて、
自分の好きな字や絵、もようを描くことが
できます。
In batik, you can draw favorite letters, paint as you like on the cloth by FUDE in wax.
